Binnopharm Group, a pharmaceutical company forming part of Sistema Group, is gearing up to launch an enterprise in the Moscow Region to produce molnupiravir, a medication recommended in the 15th edition of the Russian Health Ministry's Prevention, Diagnosis, and Treatment of New Coronavirus Infection (COVID-19) interim guidelines. The site will produce as many as 15 million units per year. The production technology was designed by the Obninsk Chemical and Pharmaceutical Company R&D team, with the full cycle to be based in Russia.

“For the past two years, we have been hard at work providing medication for healthcare facilities and patients to prevent and treat COVID-19. In addition to being the first to produce the Sputnik V vaccine, our company led the charge in bulk production of antibacterial medicines recommended by the Russian Health Ministry and favipiravir marketing,” said Binnopharm Group's CEO Rustem Muratov. “We keep a close eye on emerging trends and new COVID-19 medications, so as soon as research on molnupiravir and its effectiveness was in, we wasted no time working with Obninsk Chemical and Pharmaceutical Company to set up its full-cycle production in Russia.”
Molnupiravir is recommended by the World Health Organisation for etiotropic treatment of the coronavirus and is included in the List of Vital and Essential Medicines.

“In a short span of time, we were able to develop the technology to produce the molnupiravir substance and finished the dosage form,” said Vladimir Puchnin, CEO advisor at Obninsk Chemical and Pharmaceutical Company. “Thanks to our vast know-how in pharmaceutical substance production and Binnopharm Group’s impressive track record in medicines, we will be able to offer proven COVID-19 medication with little to no reliance on imports. This drug’s domestic production based on own substances represents an important contribution to the pharmaceutical industry’s import substitution efforts.”
